what is human friends?

human friends was birthed as an experimental passion project in february of 2026 when i (emma) wanted to play matchmaker and manually matchmake people for valentines day… leading others to a treasure she has yet to find herself etc etc…

i always thought getting set up with someone by a friend would be the cutest way to find a partner and figured… i could be that friend. no more infinite swipe of the dating apps and a return to the early internet methods of connecting with friends online: email.

after posting my first video about it, 8000 people signed up overnight.

then i made video recounting that, respectfully, i cant matchmake 8000 people and asked if you guys wanted me to match only a limited amount of people or to create an algorithm that would mimic how i would match people. after the majority voted for the latter, i brought on my beloved friend stefano who helped come up with the idea and who i met 9 years ago on the first day of our computer science classes in uni. he got to building.

by the time we closed submissions, 3 days later, 21,000+ had people signed up and on valentines day nearly everyone (i say nearly because those who didn’t enter their email properly or didn’t fill out all questions might not have received one) received a match in their inbox.

since then i have heard countless stories of people finding friendship and love through human friends and discovered that those who didn’t necessarily find their person, had fun along the way too.

so now, after months of being asked if this will ever happen again, we are back with an app. human friends is no longer a one and done experiment but a bi-weekly matchmaking service with new questionnaires, a new chatting system and more matches.

every two weeks a new questionnaire will drop, all brainstormed and curated by me, stefano and potentially special guests in the future. you will have one week to fill out the questions and at the end of the week, you will receive your match. from there you will have one week to chat, in app, and figure out why you were paired. if you found what you were looking for, yayyyyy keep chatting! but if you want another friend/potential romance, enter the next cycle for a new questionnaire.

we will be building this out as we go, starting off with an elevated version of our first iteration and adding more features and addressing feedback as we learn.

this is a grass roots project made by two friends for free.
